JS Bach, Sinfonia

I've been working on Bach's Sinfonia for the past few years and am almost finished learning them. I've finally got my pratice session recording workflow set up again, and captured a decent take of the G Major Sinfonia (No 10, BWV 796). Recorded 13 November 2015 in St Petersburg, Florida.

Here is the C Major (No 1, BWV 787) recorded 20 December 2015:

Shostakovich, Prelude Op 87 No 14

Shostakovich's Opus 87 Preludes and Fugues are some of my favorite piano works and this prelude in particular, with its dark theme and slowly building tension over an octave trill, is especially satisfying to play. This recording was made February 2009 in Lake Forest Park, Washington.

Scriabin, Prelude Op 11 No 6

This recording was made in my Seattle Sodo district studio circa September 2006 on a gray market Yamaha C7 that I wish I still owned.

Shostakovich, Prelude Op 87 No 6

I recorded this Shostakovich Prelude in the summer of 2006 at home in Madrona, Seattle, shortly after Del Fandrich rebuilt my 1907 Steinway Model A II.

JS Bach, Allemande from French Suite No 4

Recorded 2009 in Lake Forest Park, Washington, this is the opening movement of Bach’s French Suite No 4 in E-flat major, BWV 815.

Händel, Prelude from Keyboard Suite in D minor, HWV 428

I studied Händel’s Keyboard Suite HWV 428 in D minor from 2009-2011. Here is the opening movement from an October 2011 practice session, recorded with a Cascade X-15 stereo ribbon mic.

JS Bach, Allemande, Courante, and Sarabande from French Suite No. 5, BWV 816

This recording came from an October 2006 practice session on my Steinway A II after it had been rebuilt. In its new incarnation it had a modified scale design that featured the addiiton of a thrid, tenor bridge. I really liked its trebel, but never warmed up the tone of the tenor section. This recording isn't perfect (the Sarabande is the most successful) but it gives you a feel for the character of this instrument.

This next recording of the Allemande alone is also from October 2006 and was made in my Seattle Sodo District studio on a Yamaha C7. I used two Rode NTK tube mics in a spaced stereo pair and got fairly nice result!
